Decentralized Media Content Creation
Posted by: Josh Cavalier
I think it's safe to say goodbye forever to the mass centralized publishing and broadcast television model. They are all scrambling to figure out the next thing, and it's really getting interesting. Here's my own list of companies and sites that are going to shake things up:
OLD: Cable/Satellite Television
NEW: IPTV
SITE: Brightcove
Let's flip the advertising model upside down and let the content creators actually get paid for all their efforts - what a great idea! Video blogging is also going to drive this medium, but it's going to be desktop publishing all over again.
OLD: Terrestrial/Satellite Radio
NEW: Podcasting / Streaming Radio
SITE: iTunes / WOXY / Pitchfork
Howard Stern may send a few million to Sirius, but when you can get a broadband signal during you entire commute - that model will change. Thanks to Apple for putting gas on the fire. Can you say "On-line only" record labels...
OLD: Book Publishing
NEW: Self Publishing
SITE: LuLu
You name it - you can publish it, and make some $$$. Fantastic!
This is a great time to be alive.
