The Show That Never Was
Posted by: James Williamson
Add that to Josh going on vacation and my speaking at an accessibility conference this week, and well, you get what we've got now...which is no show. Maybe we'll reissue the first half later on in a "lost episode" special session...or maybe not.
So, we'll be back next week! Not sure if we'll re-visit the iPod HotMods, or go in a different direction, but it should be interesting. We have some great interviews lined up, Mike Davidson of Newsvine, Brad Becker from Microsoft, Lydia Varmazis from Adobe, Aral Balkan from FlashOS, and Garo Green from Lynda.com will all be on the show in the coming weeks, so stay tuned!
Be sure to add your comments or suggestions to podcast@lodebearing.com, we'd love to hear from you!
And since we've had to postpone last week's show, we'll be extending the contest for another week. Be sure to enter the patently obvious contest for a chance to win a $50 gift car to iTunes!
Catch you next week!
-James.

Podcasting Power!
Posted by: Josh Cavalier
There is a wave plowing down traditional media right now - Podcasting. Some people think it's a fad - just the flavor of the year. That's so far from the truth. It's absolutely amazing to me how this area of media has been blowing up over the past 16 months. It's like the desktop publishing in the late 80's and early 90's - more power to the individual.
We are right at the beginning of a revolution that is going to permanently transform the way media is created and distributed - putting it in the hands of individuals, and small businesses. Yeah, media companies like Sony, Time-Warner, Comcast, Gannett, and Clear Channel will all figure out the model and throw the same commercial junk out there - that's expected. The one thing that these companies will not do is put content out there that is negative - especially about their own company and the media it produces. People who listen to podcasts want the latest news, views and commentary on their favorite topics - not to be spoon fed a 30 minute commercial. Sorry those days are done.
This is narrowcasting - not broadcasting. "The Power of One" individual to choose what media they want to consume on their own time - what a brilliant idea. It will be another 5-6 years before we get the pipes to do the same thing with video - correctly - so in the meantime enjoy your audio freedom!
